K-9 Program Minimize

The Unadilla Township Police Department has entered a unique working relationship with the Pinckney Police Department regarding their K9 program. Both agencies share in the expenses of the K9 program which helps to reduce costs and maintain the skills of the dog.

Kizer is a Black and Tan German Sheppard, from German working lines, but was born in the United States. Kizer’s Patrol training includes the following areas:

  • Obedience
  • Tracking
  • Trailing
  • Area Search
  • Building Search
  • Article Search
  • Handler Protection
  • Suspect Apprehension

Kizer has received narcotic training in the areas of:

  • Marijuana
  • Cocaine
  • Crack Cocaine
  • Heroin
  • Methamphetemine

Kizer was trained by Ofc. Steve Hart and a retired Michigan State Police Sergeant. Ofc. Hart and K9 Kizer has trained weekly for 8 months to develop the skills necessary to certify in the areas of Patrol Narcotics. The team continues to train every week to maintain those skills.

Kizer is Nationally Certified as a Patrol Narcotics K9 by NAPCH, (National Association of Professional Canine Handlers) and NAPWDA (North American Police Work Dog Association). When not at work, K9 Kizer lives at home with his handler, Ofc. Hart and his family.

Upon request, Kizer will assist other law enforcement departments in the county and will conduct scheduled school visits and demonstrations during special events upon request.

Officers from the Unadilla Township Police Department practice a zero tolerance for drugs in our community. K9 Kizer has an excellent record of successful tracks, drug interdiction and arrests and it is our hope to maintain this important asset well into the future.
